Professional Experience April 2006 ~ Current Matrix Mandala Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization I founded to promote the practice and awareness of meditation throughout North America. The ultimate goal of the organization is to build and maintain its own meditation garden and retreat center open year-round to the public, free of charge. June 2005 ~ April 2006 The Center for Buddhist Studies is run under the auspices of Fo Guang Shan and the Buddha’s Light International Association. Here I co-translated two Chinese Buddhist sutras into English, authored two introductory essays on the sutras, and helped to create the Center for Sutra Translation and Research (CSTR), a program for scholars and students of Chinese Buddhism. I also taught courses on Chinese Buddhism and the history of Buddhist sutra production and publication. August ~ December 2005 Fo Guang Shan is Taiwan’s largest network of internationally operated temple and monastery complexes, which preserves a Pure Land/Chan style lineage of monastic Buddhism. I delivered lectures on the Heart Sutra and the Diamond Sutra to monks and nuns at the headquarter monastery in Kaohsiung. I also taught classes on Buddhist history and cosmology to North American college students participating in a summer-long monastic immersion program. September 2001 ~ June 2004 Here I taught courses in Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, Eastern Religion, and the Nature of Religion. |
